Self-portrait
A self-portrait
so exquisitely crafted
every brushstroke perfection
layer upon layer
of flawless execution
But it’s all a lie
that smile is forced
those eyes don’t sparkle
instead they’re full of caged emotion
longing for the warmth of the sun
the picture is just for show
a shell to sate the masses
The canvas hides the truth
but sometimes reality seeps through
ruining the faux-perfect scene
Dashes of deep red
ooze out and leave their mark
telling a very different story
of an honest but troubled life
one that deserves to be seen
in all its technicolour glory
